Do I need to get my landlord’s permission to change the type of business activity I carry out at my premises?

The lease you sign may restrict the use of the premises to a specified type of business. The lease will say if a change is permitted but the landlord’s consent will normally be required. Depending on the precise wording of the lease the landlord may be able to refuse consent without good reason. There may also be planning restrictions affecting change of use of the premises. It is wise to seek professional advice.
